The Solution
The negative charge of the bacteria makes them stick to the positively charged Appeartex surface, just like iron filings are attracted to a magnet. The bacteria are trapped and kept there by the charged surface created by Appeartex. The bacteria cannot spread and contaminate the surroundings. In this way, the bacteria are controlled by charge and no use of hazardous chemicals or antibiotics effecting the environment are needed.
Appeartex has two polymers which are formulated in different ways depending on the application of the final product:
- A-200 for surface protection against bacteria, mold, yeast and algae (and even some types of viruses (enveloped, e.g., influenza)
- A-450 for bacterial protection of surfaces
The surfaces that can be protected are the same for both products:
- Soft materials such as paper, textile and nonwoven
- Hard surfaces such as steel, glass and plastic
The advantages of Appeartex surface modification:
- The polymer is permanently bound to the surface, i.e. no diffusion of active ingredients is required.
- The time required for the surface to be effective is significantly lower than traditional techniques offer today.
- Appeartex can be applied in many different ways, such as bathing, spraying or coating.
- Appeartex modified materials can be washed (with non-ionic detergent) and maintain effect.
- Appeartex works in both wet and dry environments.
- It is a process-friendly chemistry.
- Low cost per square meter of surface modified.
- No pre-treatment of the surface is required nor are there any special requirements for temperature or other procedures for Appeartex polymers to bind to the intended surface.
